Add to your stay with wonderful excursions.
Borgo Lanciano is in a prime location to explore the hinterland.
Here are our recommendations on the best locations to visit in the surrounding area:
Sefro
(13 km from Borgo Lanciano, 500 meters above sea level)
For lovers of nature and greenery, Sefro has some truly amazing landscapes to offer. Trout, typical of the area, populate the Scarsito stream that runs through the Sefro valley to the Montelago plateau and the Scurosa Valley.
Two villages nestled in the quiet atmosphere of the valley, Pioraco and Fiuminata, rise along the stream where its waters flow into the Potenza River. The woods where the medieval fortifications are located make these places popular scenic destinations for vacationers.
In Sefro, you can rent MTBs at the bike station for amazing trails.
San Severino Marche
(12 km from Borgo Lanciano)
The town is divided in two: at the top of Monte Nero is the old settlement called Castello, dating back to 1545, and in the lower part is the more "recent" settlement.
The town was an ancient Roman colony called Septempeda and is full of monuments from the Romanesque and Renaissance periods.
The heart of the town is the beautiful Piazza del Popolo, with its characteristic oval shape. On the southern side of the square stands the 18th-century Town Hall, while on the opposite side stands the rococo facade of the Church of St. Joseph. Other buildings include the Palazzo Servanzi Collio, in terracotta and ashlar, and the 16th-century Palazzo dei Governatori, with the Clock Tower.
San Lorenzo in Doliolo, with its 11th-century portal and 14th-century bell tower, was built in the 8th-9th centuries on the ruins of a Roman temple. The church of San Severino, formerly a cathedral, is also a Romanesque building. It was built in the 10th century and expanded in the 11th. Then, the interior was changed, and now features a Baroque style.
Another 13th-century building, modified in the Baroque period, with a portal from 1473, is the cathedral, which has a remarkable Madonna by Pinturicchio (1489-1490), a painting by Bernardino di Mariotto (1409), and a 13th-century copper cross.
Also worth mentioning are notable civic buildings: the Porta della Valle (12th century); many fine 16th-century and Baroque palaces, including the town hall, where there is a picture gallery with valuable works.

Lake Fiastra, in the Sibillini Mountains National Park.
(only 33 km from Borgo Lanciano, in the mountains at 685 meters above sea level).
The deep blue and clean waters make it a viable alternative to the crowded beaches along the coast. The main beach at San Lorenzo al Lago also has a lifeguard. There are very large areas of non equipped beach. Swimming is possible in some marked sections.
Around the lake are RV parks and parking areas all around the areas where you can swim.
Many activities are available: hiking and mountain biking on the lake and in the mountains, Nordic walking, running, water sports, sailing or canoeing, renting pedal boats, canoes or mountain bikes, and taking advantage of the barbecue areas.
Various outdoor activities are organized at the Adventure Park on the Lake, including nature tours by boat, archery, or even, thanks to the zip line, you can cross the lake from one shore to the other. Tandem paragliding flights are also available. The Nature Trail, the path that runs along the right side of the lake from San Lorenzo al Lago, takes about two hours. You can either walk or ride a bike.
